RAPAPORT... Alrosa brought in $1.5 million from its first
polished-diamond tender in New York since it reopened its office in the city
earlier this year.
The Russian miner’s cutting division, Diamonds Alrosa,
sold 111 polished stones weighing from 2 to 6 carats, for a total of 309 carats,
it said Thursday. The tender took place last month, attracting participants
from the US, Belgium, India and Israel.
“We were pleased to see great interest from American
buyers, especially given the fact that this was our first tender in the US
after a long break,” said Pavel Vinikhin, director of Diamonds Alrosa. “We also
succeeded in attracting new clients, and by the end of this year, we hope to
hold one more tender, where we will bring a more interesting assortment.”
Alrosa launched in New York in 2006. It ceased operations
there in 2016, before reopening the office in spring of this year.
