The organizers of two upcoming jewelry exhibitions in Hong Kong have postponed the events by a month amid growing Covid-19 infections in the municipality.

The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show will take place from April 14 to 18, 2022, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) said Monday in an email to exhibitors. The event was previously scheduled for March 3 to 7.

The government-funded HKTDC cited the local outbreak and the resultant tightening of containment measures in the territory. The fairs will now take place concurrently with the council’s Spring Shopping Fest, which covers a range of lifestyle products.

The coronavirus has disrupted Hong Kong’s major jewelry and diamond shows, which rely on buyers from mainland China and the rest of the world. Travel across the China-Hong Kong border has been restricted since the start of the pandemic.

“The postponement of the two shows to mid-April covering the Easter holiday enables us to capture more local consumers or even the mainland buyers if the boundary could be reopened,” the HKTDC noted.
