RAPAPORT... The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) has promoted Ian Rowe to executive director. He will replace Dorothée Gizenga, who will lead the organization’s new Africa office.

Rowe, who has served as deputy executive director of the DDI since September 2018, was previously a director with the United Nations. He has worked with civil-society organizations in the areas of development, socioeconomic recovery and conflict prevention, the DDI said last week.

During his time at the DDI, Rowe has managed the organization’s field operations in Sierra Leone. He also led a six-month strategic-planning process to help the Canada-based organization prepare for future development challenges related to artisanal mining.

The DDI was created in 2005 to address the social and economic issues faced by artisanal miners in Africa and South America. Rowe will begin his new position on September 2.
