RAPAPORT... The Birmingham Assay Office will sponsor the official "selling" launch of British Silver Week at St. Paul's Gallery, located in the city's jewelry quarter, on the evening of June 7, 2010. The event extends through June 27 and showcases Midlands' contemporary silversmiths, as well as other British artists. At St. Paul's Gallery, which is just a short walk from The Birmingham Assay Office, the public can browse and buy the pieces on exhibit. Theresa Nguyen, one of the ambassadors of British Silver Week 2010, will be providing pieces for the St. Paul’s Gallery exhibition. Other participating silversmiths include Andrew Macgowan of LJ Millington, Louise Chesshire, Martyn Pugh, Rachel Gogerly, Ryan McClean of the Precious Metal Clay Artists, Jemma Maria Daniels, Mark Andrew Powell and Mana Sarabhai Brearley .
The event also features a backdrop of music, art and sculptures amid this thriving Midlands artists' community. Space is limited for the launch party so the Birmingham Assay Office suggests calling to apply for a guest pass at 0871.871.6020
British Silver Week is in its third year and runs events through August, with more than 15 selling exhibitions launching across the U.K. on June 7, including in Cambridge, London, Edinburgh, Oxford and other locations.
