Is Neil Lane the Real 'Bachelorette' Winner?

RAPAPORT... It came down to one girl, two roses and a three-carat diamond ring. And in the end, it was insurance agent Roberto Martinez who was chosen to propose to former Facebook employee Ali Fedotowsky during Monday night’s "Bachelorette" finale.

After competing with 24 other men vying for Fedotowsky's heart on the ABC reality show, Martinez went the distance and brought the show to a climax with his proposal. As if on cue — or, more likely, on the director’s cue — Martinez dropped to one knee while slipping the Neil Lane sparkler on her ring finger.

“I want to make you smile. I want to make sure you wake up every morning for the rest of your life knowing that you’re so, so loved. Share your life with me. Be my wife. Will you marry me?” he asked.

While the couple are said to still be together some months after filming has completed, outlasting many of their predecessor reality television couples, the other winner  was jeweler Neil Lane, who appears to have found a regular gig designing the prize jewel.

This season’s ring, which was larger than the one used last season, featured a 3.03-carat, asscher-cut center diamond encrusted with 184 round, brilliant-cut diamonds. The ring reportedly had an estimated value of around $50,000.

According to People’s StyleNews, Lane met with Fedotowsky earlier in the show to see which designs she favored.

“She was both very girly and sophisticated at the same time,” he said of his inspiration.

Lane is no stranger to Hollywood and has supplied engagement rings for the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Hudson, Emily Blunt and Kristen Bell. He has also counted Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, Demi Moore, Jennifer Lopez and Madonna among his red carpet clients.

In the previous season of The Bachelor, Lane designed a handcrafted, platinum-set Neil Lane ring encrusted with 70 diamonds and a 2.02-carat, princess-cut center stone for the finalist couple, Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi.

That match, as it happens, didn’t last — proof, perhaps, that only in the real world is a diamond forever.
