RAPAPORT... Black, Starr & Frost, which is based in Newport Beach, California and intends to expand its reach into Arizona, anticipates constructing a new store in  Phoenix at the Biltmore Plaza Shopping Center to open in the fall of 2015.

Alfredo J. Molina, the president and chairman of both Molina Fine Jewelers and Black, Starr & Frost, planned the new store within the existing Molina Fine Jewelers building. The southern portion of the structure will be  renovated to accommodate a new two-story, 2,000-square-foot Black, Starr & Frost salonblack starr frost

“We are thrilled to expand our footprint into Arizona and see the Phoenix and Scottsdale area as a perfect market for our rare jewels, luxury Black, Starr & Frost timepieces and finely crafted jewelry,” Molina said. “This is an important step as we continue to focus on revitalizing the Black, Starr & Frost brand with new collections, signature piece and new locations nationwide.”

Molina acquired Black, Starr & Frost in 2006 and he opened the brand's  showroom overlooking the Newport Beach harbor in 2011. He said that Black, Starr & Frost, which was founded in New York in 1810, operated more than 30 locations in its heyday. To that end,  “our team gleaned interior design inspiration from a composite of vintage photos taken of Black, Starr & Frost stores throughout the 1800s and at the turn of the century,” he said. The Phoenix store will be “simple, with clean interiors in the brand’s palette with gleaming black and white tile floors, fine sterling-silver accents – a nod to the company’s early work as silversmiths – and walls clad in black-on-black patterned wallpaper.”  A store display will showcase  photos, antiques and original jewels from the 205-year-old jewelry firm and an upstairs salon will be designed to accommodate VIPs and allow private viewings of rare pieces.

“We are thrilled to unveil this beautiful new salon, which will pay homage to our vibrant history and time-honored tradition of crafting the very finest jewelry,” Molina said.
