RAPAPORT... Total traffic at the VICENZAORO January trade show rose 5 percent to more than 35,000 visitors as international interest increased, according to the event’s organizers.

The fair in Vicenza, Italy, which was held from January 22 to 27, saw 19,381 buyers turn up, with 5-percent growth in the number of buyers from outside Italy to 8,774 from 130 countries, Fiera di Vicenza said in a statement released February 11. Italian operator numbers increased 4.3 percent to 10,607, indicating a possible recovery of the domestic market, the company said.

Products from 1,500 brands from 31 countries were on show across nine pavilions, covering 29,000 square meters.

“We are particularly pleased with the results in terms of visitor figures for this VICENZAORO,” said Matteo Marzotto, president of Fiera di Vicenza.

There was “strong growth” in visitor numbers from the U.S. but number of buyers from China and Hong Kong dropped, “confirming the slowdown in the Chinese economy,” the company said.

The central theme of the fair was “The Golden Voice,” which involved giving a voice to important stakeholders in the gold and jewelry industries at workshops, seminars and meetings. There was also a special focus on technology used in the industry as part of the 39th T-GOLD, an international show dedicated to machinery and technology used in the gold and jewelry industry. It was attended by 133 businesses, including 111 Italian companies.

This January’s VICENZAORO brought back the format of “VICENZAORO The Boutique Show” first introduced in January 2015 in which the Fiera di Vicenza exhibition center was set out as a “Jewelry City” with six business clusters.

A number of initiatives were launched at the show, including a presentation of an agreement between Fiera di Vicenza and Arezzo Fiere e Congressi, supported by the Minister of Economic Development, to boost recognition of Italian jewelry across the world. The agreement includes coordinated management of the trade-fair calendar for the industry in 2016-17 and creating a single trade-fair platform for the Italian gold and jewelry sector.

The next global VICENZAORO fair is the VICENZAORO Dubai edition scheduled for April 14 to 17, organized by DV Global Link, a joint venture between Fiera di Vicenza and the Dubai World Trade Centre.
