RAPAPORT... Sally Morrison, managing director of marketing for the Diamond Producers Association (DPA), will leave the organization in May to “pursue another professional opportunity.”

Michael Pace, the former head of global marketing at the World Gold Council, will become interim managing director of marketing at the end of March to “ensure continuity of momentum,” until a permanent replacement for Morrison is found, DPA member De Beers said in a statement March 10.

Pace will report to DPA chief executive officer Jean-Marc Lieberherr and will work alongside David Lamb, a former managing director of the World Gold Council, who is providing strategic marketing support to the organization.

“I am very grateful to Sally for her significant contribution to the marketing direction of the DPA, and would like to wish her every success for the future,” Lieberherr said in the statement.

“In Michael and David, we have two outstanding marketers, who will work with the board and me to achieve the goals we’ve set for the DPA. We look forward to sharing with the trade an update on our marketing plans at the upcoming JCK show [in Las Vegas in June].”

The latest change at the DPA comes after Lieberherr, the former head of diamonds at Rio Tinto, took over as CEO in February. Stephen Lussier, executive vice president of marketing at De Beers and CEO of the Forevermark brand, became chairman and Jim Pounds, executive vice-president for diamonds at Dominion Diamond Corporation, joined as vice-chairman.

The DPA’s founding members include ALROSA, De Beers, Dominion Diamond Corporation, Lucara Diamond Corporation, Petra Diamonds and Gem Diamonds.
