RAPAPORT... The Birmingham Assay Office in the U.K. added an extra date in November to its new ''Understanding Watches'' training course as the first two classes have sold out. The Assay Office created this course, delivered by watch industry expert Peter Tales, as a hands-on learning experience for retail staff or enthusiasts who already have some experience in watches.
At press time, the Assay Office confirmed that there was one open space remaining in the November 12 class and reported that since the classes for September 18 and October 23 sold out so quickly, it had added November 25 to the lineup.
The course provides six hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity and provides an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects and benefits of different types of watches to improve confidence when selling or assessing a watch. The course gives each delegate a chance to handle and study watches closely and disassemble items using standard basic tools. It will teach basic practical skills, which will enable students to diagnose possible faults and carry out maintenance repairs. Additionally, the event allows attendees to visit the hallmarking operation at the Birmingham Assay Office, which is not usually open to the public.
