Online Video Ads Surge 58% in May

RAPAPORT... Digital metrics firm comScore Inc. reported that the number of U.S. Internet users who watched video content grew 1.1 percent year on year in May to 182 million, while the number of videos viewed grew 12 percent  to 40 billion. The duration of the average online video was 5:36, with the average video advertisement length at 0:24.  The number of video advertisement views in May surged 58 percent to 15.8 billion. 



As for video channels that hosted the most advertising video clips, Brightroll media bested longtime video leader Google Sites for the No.1 spot for a third time this year, as Google Sites fell to second place. Third place went to LiveRail.com, followed by ADAP.TV, Hulu, Specific Media, Tubemogul, Tremor Video, Videology, and AOL Inc.




Google video properties, which include YouTube, maintained its dominance as the top video content provider, however, May by attracting 182 million unique viewers. Facebook was in second place, attracting 60 million viewers, followed by AOL, VEVO, NDN, Yahoo! Sites, Microsoft Sites, Viacom Digital,  Amazon Sites and Turner Digital.
