RAPAPORT... Mountain Province Diamonds narrowed its loss in the third quarter ahead of its first sale of production from the Gahcho Kué mine in Canada.

The miner reported a net loss of $4 million (CAD 5.4 million) in the three months that ended September 30, representing an 80 percent reduction from a loss of $19.6 million a year ago.

Output from production ramp-up on August 1 to the end of the quarter was 198,000 carats, of which about 97,000 carats are Mountain Province’s share. The remainder belongs to De Beers, its joint-venture partner, which owns 51 percent.

Mountain Province’s first sale of goods from Gahcho Kué is scheduled to take place in Antwerp in mid-January and about every five weeks afterwards.
