RAPAPORT... A kimberlite discovered during new exploration at Mountain Province’s Gahcho Kué mine will expand total production at the asset.

Deposits located near the north pipe of the mine have the potential to increase output at Gahcho Kué by 2.2 million to 4.2 million carats, the company reported last week.

“Our continued success in this near-mine exploration program is very encouraging,” said Mountain Province CEO Stuart Brown. “These significant kimberlite discoveries are well within the present mine-plan area, and there is little doubt that, if economic, will contribute tonnage to extend the miner life at Gahcho Kué.”

De Beers, Mountain Province’s partner in Gahcho Kué, will complete its exploration program shortly, and the results may be incorporated into a modified mine plan during fiscal 2019, Brown added.

Mountain Province owns 49% of the Gahcho Kué mine, with De Beers holding the remaining 51%.
