Pomellato will trace its jewelry’s path from origin to purchase through a newly created app it called “the first of its kind” in the industry.

The Kering-owned jewelry company launched the app to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Nudo, its most recognized line. The technology is available for 17 stones from that label, as well as for Nuvola, the house’s first fully traceable collection, Pomellato said recently.

Customers can tap on any piece of jewelry on the app to find out the origins of the gold, diamonds and gemstones used. They can also download certifications from the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), Fairmined — a label that certifies gold from approved artisanal and small-scale mining organizations — and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Pomellato noted.

In addition to tracking the jewelry, the app offers an augmented-reality feature that enables buyers to virtually try on items they are interested in purchasing, the company explained. Shoppers can view Pomellato’s 50-year history of luxury Italian goldsmithing and get behind-the-scenes snapshots of the company’s Milanese atelier. They can also explore Pomellato’s family beginnings and commitments to making a positive impact on the plant, the jeweler explained.

The app is “a sparkling virtual world, dedicated to [our] passionate commitment to building responsible, ethical and transparent sourcing,” the company added. “The first of its kind in the jewelry industry, the app allows Pomellato connoisseurs and new clients to trace its magnificent jewels, from the origins of gold and gemstones to its journey through Pomellato’s world-class Milanese atelier to [their] jewelry box.”
