RAPAPORT... The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) has moved its international headquarters to Hong Kong from New York. The new offices,  located in Hong Kong's gems and jewelry manufacturing district, is staffed by a team of English and Chinese speaking employees and led by Daniel Leung, the executive assistant to the president.

ICA stressed that the relocation is aimed at connecting to the rapidly expanding Asian markets so that its members can actively participate in the development of the colored gemstones and jewelry industry in the region. ICA has recently seen its Asian membership grow and hopes the new office will better serve the market.

"We felt that we could not ignore the trends that are sweeping our industry, and the global economy in general," Wilson Yuen, ICA's president said. "Asia in general, and China in particular, is claiming a larger role in international business, and it is imperative that we are based in the heart of the region to enable us to provide a comprehensive service to our membership and to the industry."

The new Hong Kong offices were opened at a special inauguration ceremony attended by the board of directors of the ICA. The organization will maintain a presence in New York at a new location.
