RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) set up an
international program to develop the future generation of
diamond dealers.
The ‘Young Diamantaires’ initiative was introduced at the 37th World
Diamond Congress in Dubai in May and will be led by Rami Baron, who
was elected chairman of the WFDB's promotion committee at the summit. The
project originates from discussions between the committee's members to encourage communication among younger diamantaires and connect
them with newer members of the WFDB’s 30 affiliated bourses.
“We understand the critical importance of nurturing the next
generation of diamond dealers,” said Ernie Blom, president of the WFDB (pictured). “It is
only through fresh ideas and the ability to identify new opportunities where
technology and business come together in the borderless World Wide Web that the
diamond industry will rise to the top position in the world of luxury.”
The Young Diamantaires group comprises younger members of
diamond firms, bourses and organizations in countries including Israel, India,
Belgium, the U.S., South Africa and Australia.
“There has been tremendous interest in the program following
our inaugural meeting in Dubai,” said Baron, who is also the president of the Diamond Dealers Club of Australia.
"That shows the great desire among the younger generation of diamond
industry members to increase communication and learn from each other about how
to take our business forward into the future.”
