RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses' (WFDB) Young Diamantaires group said turnout exceeded expectations at its inaugural meeting in Hong Kong.

The gathering on September 15 was held during the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair and was broadcast live on the internet, enabling members to listen in from around the world.

“I knew there was enormous interest and enthusiasm, but even I was surprised by the number of people who attended,” said Rami Baron, chairman of the WFDB’s promotion committee and the person spearheading the initiative (pictured). “We were able to discuss a wide range of issues, including the ambitions of the group and the future of the diamond trade.”

Baron launched the initiative four months ago at the 37th World Diamond Congress in Dubai. The project was the outcome of discussions among the WFDB's promotion committee about facilitating communications and networking among the younger industry members.

“The meetings created new connections leading many of the attendees to visit booths at the show that they otherwise would not have done,” Baron added.
