RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp garnered $38.7 million at its exceptional
rough sale this week, boosted by a 224.5 carat stone recovered from the Karowe
mine.
The type-IIa diamond fetched $11.1 million, or $49,497 per
carat, the highest value per carat achieved at the company’s second exceptional
stone tender of the year. The event featured 12 single-stone lots totaling
1,098 carats.
Five diamonds sold for more than $2 million each. A
162.3-carat stone drew $4.9 million, or $30,117 per carat, while an 81.8-carat
diamond garnered $46,138 per carat.
All the goods came from Lucara’s famed Karowe mine in
Botswana, which produced the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona rough diamond, the
second largest in history, in November last year.
