RAPAPORT... Temple St. Clair won the Jewelers of America (JA) GEM Award for Jewelry Design at this year’s ceremony in New York, which was held January 8.

St. Clair received the honor from last year’s winner Stephen Webster, according to a JA statement January 11. Her design achievements in 2015 included the launch of her ‘Wings of Desire’ and the debut of her collection ‘Mythical Creatures from the Golden Menagerie’ at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.

The other nominees in the category were Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of Chopard and jeweler Sevan Bicakci.

Cartier received the GEM Award for Watch Design, accepted on the company’s behalf by Mercedes Abramo, president and chief executive officer of Cartier North America. The GEM Award for Media Excellence went to Rob Bates, news director of JCK, who has more than 20 years of experience writing about the diamond and jewelry industries.

Joe Thompson, editor-in-chief of WatchTime magazine, was the recipient of the 2016 GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award was presented by Efraim Grinberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Movado Group, whose father earned the first GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2002.

The event was held at Cipriani 42nd Street, with more than 450 industry members attending. It was broadcast live online.
