RAPAPORT... Michael Hill appointed Brett Halliday president for North America as part of acting chief executive officer Phil Taylor’s plan to turn around the U.S. business following disappointing sales.

U.S. operations have been added to Halliday’s current responsibility as head of the Canadian business, the company confirmed. Michael Hill’s same-store revenues rose 3.5 percent in the U.S. during fiscal 2016, coming in below expectations and budget, with the jeweler pledging to focus on growing sales stateside before adding to its 10 stores.

Halliday, who took on the newly created role with immediate effect, replaced Darcy Harkins, retail general manager for the U.S., and Ray Riley, who was the country’s regional manager.

The appointment comes after Mike Parsell stepped down as the group CEO after a 16-year stint and was replaced by interim chief Phil Taylor last month.

Separately, Tishara Mina replaced Micah Walker as general manager of Emma & Roe, Michael Hill’s charm brand.
