RAPAPORT... Lucapa Diamond Company has unearthed a 126-carat, gem-quality rough from its Mothae mine in Lesotho, it said Thursday.

The stone is the largest recovered from the deposit since commercial production began in January, and the first diamond over 100 carats the mine has produced. Lucapa previously found five stones weighing more than 50 carats each during bulk sampling.

“Lesotho is very proud of its international reputation as a producer of large and high-quality diamonds, and this latest recovery from our newest mine, Mothae, continues to demonstrate our nation’s great potential,” said Keketso Sello, Lesotho’s minister of mining.

The recovery comes after Lucapa unearthed a 130-carat, gem-quality stone from its Lulo alluvial mine in Angola earlier this week.
