RAPAPORT... Consumers increasingly want to know the story behind their diamond. But what type of provenance information are they seeking, and how can the industry provide this?

Four guests explored this topic in the second installment of Rapaport’s new podcast series, “Technology and the Diamond Trade,” sponsored by Sarine Technologies.

They included David Block, Sarine’s CEO; Alexey Tikhonov, head of projects for strategy and analytics at Alrosa; and Rahul Jauhari, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Indian diamond manufacturer Star Rays. The panel, moderated by Rapaport Senior News Reporter Joshua Freedman, explained the technology behind traceability, how to integrate it into the supply chain, and the methods of ensuring the reliability of information throughout a diamond’s journey from mine to retail.

The podcast also featured an interview with Leanne Kemp, founder and CEO of blockchain company Everledger, in which she shed light on how the tamper-proof databases can help ensure the legitimacy of provenance data.
