RAPAPORT... The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) expanded its constituent base with the addition of India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) as the largest among its 31 members.

The council had to adjust its bylaws to comply with the WFDB’s requirements, WFDB president Ernie Blom told Rapaport News at the World Diamond Congress in Dubai. The GJEPC represents more than 6,000 diamond and jewelry exporters.

Blom added the GJEPC brings with it marketing expertise that fits into the federation’s strategy for growth.

Louis Prior, the executive director of the WFDB, unveiled the organization’s strategy in a working session at the congress. The scheme will focus on increasing the WFDB’s membership; working with members to increase profit in the trade; engage with stakeholders such as producers, banks, governments and non-government organizations; strengthen industry compliance standards; and introduce a global communications strategy.

During the session, Blom was elected for a fourth term as WFDB president. Yoram Dvash, president of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), will serve as the federation’s vice president over the next two years.
