As the U.S. retail and wholesale trades enter the final stretch of preparing for the Christmas retail season, the Jewelers Security Alliance (JSA) reminds traveling salesmen as well as retail jewelers of the importance of remaining vigilant on safety matters.

Scott Guginsky, the vice president of JSA, discusses the latest nuances criminals use to gain access to merchandise and the best ways to ensure the safety of dealers, retailers and staff.

Some tips include:
--Lock up all merchandise daily;
--Do not bring valuables home;
--Got car problems? Could be a set-up, call 911; and
--Keep video surveillance at least 30 days.
