RAPAPORT... Blue Nile will open a second ‘Webroom’ at the Westchester Mall in White Plains, New York, enabling visitors to view products and place orders in-store with the help of non-commissioned consultants.

Development of the location is underway, with the site expected to launch by early summer, the online jewelry retailer said in a statement February 11. The company opened its first Webroom at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, New York, in June 2015. It plans to open four new Webrooms this year.

The format enables the company to generate higher sales per square foot than a traditional jeweler while maintaining prices far below competitors, the statement claimed.

“The first Webroom greatly exceeded our expectations and we're excited to expand this shopping experience which is unlike any other in jewelry retail,” said Julie Yoakum, Blue Nile’s chief merchandising officer. “The efficiencies of the Webroom and our online model allow us to simultaneously leverage and disrupt the brick and mortar experience.”

Blue Nile reported a 4.8-percent drop in sales in the fourth quarter to January 3 and a 7.7-percent decline in U.S. engagement sales.
