RAPAPORT... U.S.
specialty jewelry store sales increased 3 percent year on year to $2.12 billion
in March, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The growth
at specialty stores was slower than for the sector as a whole, as jewelry and
watch sales across all channels advanced
4.2 percent to $4.65 billion during the month.
Specialty
jewelry store sales in the first quarter of 2016 increased 1.4 percent to $6.53
million. Total U.S. jewelry and watch sales in the first quarter advanced 4.9
percent to $15.47 billion, according to preliminary Rapaport News estimates.
In April,
overall U.S. retail and food-services sales increased 3 percent from a year ago
to $453.4 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau said. The figure is adjusted for
seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price
changes. |
