Historic Cullinan Document Fetches $28K

RAPAPORT... The original manuscript that paved the way for the cutting
of the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond to create the British Crown Jewels fetched
more than seven times its high estimate at Bonhams.
The sale included the documents representatives of King
Edward VII and London diamond brokers M.J. Levy & Nephew signed in 1908, as
well as a paste replica of the Cullinan diamond in its original rough form. Two
replica sets of the nine principal diamonds that form the Crown Jewels also
featured in the collection at the London sale Tuesday.
The entire group sold for GBP 21,312 ($27,845) against its high
valuation of GBP 3,000 ($3,900), after a bidding war between live, online and
phone buyers, the auction house said.
