RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. cofounder Lukas Lundin is set to retire from his positions as director and chairman of the company’s board.
Lundin owns just under a quarter of the diamond-mining firm and its Karowe deposit in Botswana. He was “instrumental in transforming Karowe into one of the world’s leading, high-margin diamond mines,” Lucara CEO Eira Thomas said last week.
The Lundin family will recommend someone to the board to provide it with ongoing representation, given the large size of its share, Lucara noted. The miner will assess directors to replace Lundin as chairman. That nominee will stand for election at Lucara’s annual general meeting on May 6.
Lundin will also retire as chairman and director of Lundin Gold and Lundin Mining.
“With his ongoing support, we look forward to a long and successful future at Karowe, expanding the mine underground and extending mine life out until at least 2040,” Thomas added.
