Mehul Choksi Among Industry’s Top 50 Influencers

Press Release: Mehul Choksi, the chairman of the Gitanjali Group, was named as one of  50 outstanding individuals who represent the jewelry and watch industry's top powerhouses for a second consecutive year. The list is compiled by U.S. trade publication JCK Magazine.

The publication cited Gitanjali Group as one of the Indian industry’s largest manufacturers, and it also mentioned the 12 percent gain in comparative-store sales during the 2012 Christmas season at Gitanjali-owned Samuels in the U.S.

Other influencers on the list included Henry Cheng, the executive chairman of Chow Tai Fook; Bernard Arnault, the  CEO  of LVMH; François Curiel, the president  of Christie’s Asia; Johann Rupert, the executive chairman of  Richemont; Stanislas de Quercize, the CEO of Cartier; G.Nicolas ‘Nick’ Hayek Jr., the CEO of Swatch Group; Philippe Mellier, the CEO of De Beers and Thierry Stern, the president of luxury watch brand Patek Philippe.

“Without the 50 people who appear on this list, it’s safe to say that the jewelry and watch trade would be disrupted — if not made downright dysfunctional,” editors of the magazine said.

The list is compiled annually by the magazine’s senior editors in consultation with numerous outside experts.

Choksi is a visionary who from the mid-1980s has led the expansion and diversification of the company. In the early 1990s, he pioneered the development of branded jewelry in India, launching Gili in 1994, and since then has developed a large portfolio of renowned jewelry brands for different consumer segments and needs, which are retailed both in India and overseas.

Today, brands from the Gitanjali Group including Nakshatra, Gili, D’damas, Asmi, Sangini and others that are among the most visible and largest selling in India. Under his leadership, the group has rapidly expanded in Middle East, China, Japan, Far East and it owns  Samuels Jewelers in the U.S.  and number of premium Italian brands.
