Temple St. Clair, Cartier Win GEM Awards

St. Clair won the Jewelers of America (JA) GEM Award for Jewelry Design at this
year’s ceremony in New York, which was held January 8.
St.
Clair received the honor from last year’s winner Stephen Webster, according to
a JA statement January 11. Her design achievements in 2015 included the launch
of her ‘Wings of Desire’ and the debut of her collection ‘Mythical Creatures
from the Golden Menagerie’ at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
The other nominees in the category were Caroline Scheufele, co-president
and artistic director of Chopard and jeweler Sevan Bicakci.
Cartier received the GEM Award for Watch Design, accepted on the company’s
behalf by Mercedes Abramo, president and chief executive officer of Cartier
North America. The GEM Award for Media Excellence went to Rob Bates, news
director of JCK, who has more than 20 years of experience writing about the
diamond and jewelry industries.
Joe Thompson,
editor-in-chief of WatchTime magazine,
was the recipient of the 2016 GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award was
presented by Efraim Grinberg, chairman and chief executive officer of Movado
Group, whose father earned the first GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement in
2002.
The event was held at Cipriani 42nd Street, with
more than 450 industry members attending. It was broadcast live online.
