Tiffany & Co. plans to create a new role of chief brand officer to replace its current head of merchandising.

The recruit, who will come from outside the company and will also be an executive vice president, will take over from Pamela Cloud, the jeweler’s senior vice president and chief merchandising officer. The new role will combine Tiffany’s marketing and merchandising efforts, the retailer noted Monday in a Securities Exchange Commission filing.

Until the new position is filled, the company’s senior merchandising officers will report directly to Tiffany CEO Alessandro Bogliolo.

Cloud, who has been with the company since 1994, will end her tenure as an executive officer with the jeweler on November 26. She will continue at Tiffany until July 31 to help the transition, provide advice, and work on a project-by-project basis.
