RAPAPORT... The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A)  confirmed 13 gemologists as speakers for its upcoming annual gemology conference, which is scheduled for November 1 to 4, 2014 at the Business Design Centre in Islington.

Gem-A’s 2014 conference will begin with talk from Bruce Bridges, the son of internationally renowned gemologist Campbell Bridges, and he will be followed by a series of  lectures from Edward Boehm, Thomas Hainschwang,  Alan Hart, Ulrich Henn, Brian Cook and  Vincent Pardieu.

On the second day, conference presentations will address topics varying from the recovered jewelry of the HMS Titanic to digital color analysis, grading, pricing and trading of gems with speakers including Craig Lynch, Chris Smith, Terry Coldham, Menahem Sevdermish, Richard Hughes and Laurent Cartier.

During the final  two days, Gem-A will host a number of interactive trips and workshops, with Richard Drucker, for the  "colored stone grading and pricing" workshop, succeeded by a two-hour session studying the applications of RAMAN and photoluminescence spectroscopy with Mikko Åström and Alberto Scarani  from GemmoRaman. Gem-A’s annual graduation ceremony will follow at the Goldsmiths’ Hall, with guest speaker Tim Matthews, the CEO of Jewelry Television (JTV).  On the closing day of the conference, attendees may visit the Natural History Museum prior to the final seminar on global ethical challenges within the industry, led by Greg Valerio and Vivien Johnston.

Gem-A's CEO, James Riley, said, "Gem-A’s 2014 conference promises to be one of the best yet. Continuing from last year’s successful anniversary conference, the 2014 conference will build on the positive feedback received from our event at Goldsmiths Hall in 2013. We understand that the best way to keep our conference fresh, up-to-date and relevant to current and potential members is by listening to their wants and trying our best to deliver the most contemporary, topical and relevant speakers. We hope that the current line-up for the 2014 conference will replicate 2013 in that respect and deliver on this promise.”
