RAPAPORT... Johanna Levy has joined the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as its first vice president of environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs.

Levy will spearhead the GIA’s sustainability policy and practices. The aim is to advance its consumer-protection mission of moving itself and the industry closer to a more sustainable future, it said in a LinkedIn post last week.

Before joining the GIA, Levy spent nearly 10 years at perfume and taste company Firmenich. She was the director of sustainability for North America for four years, before being promoted to senior director of global environmental excellence.

“GIA is in a unique position to advance the development and implementation of programs and practices that will lead to greater transparency, and a more sustainable future for the gem and jewelry industry,” said Levy. “I look forward to helping the institute build on its strong foundation of integrity and trust.”
