RAPAPORT... Jewelers of America (JA) appointed David Bonaparte ‎to serve as its next president and chief executive. He will replace Matthew Runci, who ‎retires at the end of 2012. Bonaparte will work with Runci starting October 1 before ‎officially taking over on January 1, 2013. ‎Bonaparte has been heading JCK brands for Reed Exhibitions.
‎ ‎
‎"Our internal search committee considered an extremely talented pool of candidates from ‎both within and outside the industry,” said Georgie Gleim, the chairman of JA's board. “Through ‎a lengthy and thorough process, the committee selected Dave based on his proven leadership ‎skills, knowledge of the industry and his vision for the future of the organization.”‎

In his new role, Bonaparte will work to expand JA’s membership, strengthen the ‎organization’s influence and resources, and uphold its role in public and industry ‎affairs as an advocate for its members and the larger jewelry industry. ‎

Bonaparte, whose appointment was approved at JA’s semi annual meeting on July 28, ‎is a senior vice president of JCK at Reed Exhibitions, the global head of Reed’s jewelry business portfolio and has been ‎instrumental in developing The JCK Industry Fund, which provides $400,000 annually to ‎individuals, groups and associations that develop programs to benefit and promote the ‎industry, JA noted. ‎

In addition, Bonaparte has been a strong supporter of the American Gem Society, the ‎Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America, Jewelry Information Center, Jewelers ‎Security Alliance, Jewelers Vigilance Committee and Women's Jewelry Association, and has ‎worked with JA at a state and regional level.‎

‎Bonaparte said, “I am extremely grateful to Reed Exhibitions for the opportunity given to me to serve the ‎jewelry industry with the JCK brands. My work there enabled me to develop valuable, ‎meaningful relationships with key industry executives and become intimately aware of the ‎needs and issues that the industry is faced with on a daily basis. I am thrilled ‎to be able to continue that important work with Jewelers of America." ‎
