Press Release: Kelly Rowland, the GRAMMY® Award-winning artist who rocketed to fame as part of Destiny’s Child, will headline the Diamond Empowerment Fund’s (D.E.F.) Diamonds in the Sky Las Vegas gala on May 28 at the Four Seasons Ballroom in Las Vegas.

The star-studded event will salute Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government  of India for their progress toward national sustainability and the advancement of the diamond industry.

An accomplished singer, songwriter, and actress, Rowland elevated pop R&B to stratospheric heights as a member of Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling groups of all time. She’s been honored with five Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 15 Soul Train Awards, four American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, one BRIT Award, one BET Award, one NAACP Image Award, a Star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame,” and more.

She has starred in numerous television shows and feature films, including American Dreams, The Fashion Show alongside style icon Isaac Mizrahi, and as a judge on The X Factor U.K. Rowland was also honored as one of People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful People in the World” in 2013 and has acted as a spokesperson for companies TW Steel and Caress, among others.

Rowland is also no stranger to giving back.  In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, Rowland co-founded the Survivor Foundation with Beyoncé Knowles, her former Destiny’s Child bandmate, in order to provide interim housing for victims and storm evacuees in the Houston, Texas area. To this day,  Rowland still donates her old clothing to her local church in Houston.

In 2006, Rowland was featured along with other artists in ads for the ALDO Fights AIDS Campaign; and in 2008, she became a global ambassador for MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, which fights HIV through youth education campaigns worldwide. In 2010,  Rowland helped establish her own charity, I Heart My Girlfriends, which focuses on the comprehensive empowerment of women and girls.

“We are thrilled to have such an enormous and big-hearted talent on board,” said D.E.F.'s board president and Mercury Ring's CEO, Phyllis Bergman. “It is so important to us to show how diamonds do good globally and Ms. Rowland’s strong commitment to giving back is an inspiration and a testament to that message.”

Premier presenting sponsors of the event include Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd., the De Beers Group of Companies, Rio Tinto and Signet Jewelers Ltd. Partner and patron sponsors are Rosy Blue Group and Le Vian Group, respectively.

The D.E.F. was co-founded by Russell Simmons, De Beers, and other leaders in the diamond industry in 2007 to empower youth from diamond-producing countries and communities where the diamond and jewelry industry does business around the world with access to higher education.  To date, D.E.F has impacted over 2,000 students, furthering the message that Diamonds Do Good.
