RAPAPORT... Gem Diamonds recovered a 202-carat rough diamond at its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, bringing the number of
100-carat-plus stones the company has found this year to seven, it said Wednesday.
The recovery of the D-color,
type-IIa diamond comes after Gem Diamonds switched to the higher-grade K6
section of the main Letšeng pipe earlier this year. In 2016, the
company only found five diamonds with a three-figure carat weight.
The Letšeng mine is one of the highest-value diamond
deposits in the world, with the July tender yielding an average price of $2,397
per carat — the
highest for the company since September 2015. |
