RAPAPORT... A rescue team from the Diavik diamond mine scored a second consecutive win at the 55th annual Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission’s Mine Rescue Competition held June 15 and 16 in Yellowknife, Canada. Diavik's team captain was Kelsey Loessl, the vice captain was Nathan Pitre and teammates were Brent Karstad, James Venera, Brad Rogers, Justin Grandjambe, John Arnold, Tom Cheveldave and Alex Clinton.diavik

The annual underground competition is a very challenging task and a great opportunity for rescue teams to  test skills against other area mining firms.  In total, the underground competition included seven events of which Diavik won three.

This win enables the Diavik team to qualify for the 11th Biennial National Regional Mine Rescue Competition to be held in Fernie, British Columbia in 2013. But first, this team will compete in September for the International Mines Rescue Competition in the Ukraine, marking the first time Diavik entered a global competition.
