RAPAPORT... Fancy color diamond prices were stable during the third
quarter of 2015 even as white diamond prices continue to decline, according to the Fancy
Color Research Foundation (FCRF).
The Fancy Color Diamond Index remained practically unchanged
between July and September 2015, despite lower transaction volumes, reported
the FCRF, which publishes the index.
Yellow diamond prices, especially in the fancy category,
were soft and declined by up to 2 percent, the statement said. The best
performing fancy color diamonds were vivid blues, which showed increases of up
to 6 percent over the previous quarter. Blue diamond prices rose on average 2
percent, driven by the vivid category, with prices of 1.5-carat, 2-carat, and
5-carat diamonds increasing by 5 percent to 6 percent over the previous quarter.
This marks the most significant quarterly price increase for blue diamonds in
the last 12 months, the FCRF explained. Prices for pink diamonds were on
average unchanged.
In contrast, the RapNet Diamond Index (RAPI™) for 1-carat, GIA-graded
diamonds fell 6.3 percent during the third quarter, according to the Rapaport
Monthly Report for September.
Eden Rachminov, FCRF’s chairman, said the upcoming auction
of the “Blue Moon” diamond may have generated greater demand for blue stones. The
fancy vivid blue diamond will go under the hammer at Sotheby’s Magnificent
Jewels sale in Geneva on November 11.
