RAPAPORT... The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will offer $2 million of scholarships next year for its Gemology and Jewelry Manufacturing Arts programs, courses and laboratory programs.

Applications are open on the GIA’s website until September 30, the institute said. The GIA has awarded $5.5 million in scholarships to almost 1,150 students since 2013, financed by its endowment fund and several private donors.

The scholarships are available for distance education e-learning courses and for campus-based programs in Bangkok, Carlsbad, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New York and Taiwan, as well as at GIA branches in Botswana and Dubai.

An earlier spring-application round that ended April 30 offered $500,000 of scholarships.
