RAPAPORT... Alrosa has unearthed its largest yellow rough diamond this year, the miner said Monday.

The 28.59-carat stone has a deep greenish-yellow hue, classifying it as fancy intense yellow, the company said.

“This stone is…unique, because nature seemed to have prepared it for cutting, and, in advance, gave it a pear-like shape,” said Evgeny Agureev, director of Alrosa’s United Selling Organization.

Alrosa subsidiary Almazy Anabara discovered the stone at its Ebelyakh placer deposit in July. It has not yet decided if it will auction the stone in its rough form, or whether it will cut and polish it and sell it through its colored-diamond division.
