RAPAPORT... Israel-based diamond firm Dalumi sponsored jewelry designer Michal Oren in the “On the Point of a Diamond” exhibition held in Tel Aviv. Oren was one of 25 designers taking part in the exhibition, held in cooperation with the Israel Diamond Exchange, showcasing original creations by up-and-coming Israeli designers working in a range of media. Dalumi contributed a diamond for Oren’s oxidized silver ring, The Magic Mountain, inspired by the Thomas Mann novel from the 1920s. Oren also created A Chance for Beauty, a brooch in oxidized silver. Both pieces feature champagne diamonds from Dalumi.

Hot Knots by Jane Basch send messages of love, peace and hope. Each 36-inch-long silver Hot Knot chain features several dangling charms on a theme — hearts, butterflies, angels, celestial or even pearls. The chain is knotted like opera-length pearls and flutters with its personal message.

The recent Vancouver Winter Olympics inspired Roberto Coin to add to his Tiny Treasures a winter-sports-themed collection, including miniature ice skates, snowboards and skis. Each pendant glitters with white or black diamonds for winter sports enthusiasts.

Swiss-born, California-based designer Christoph Krähenmann created an 18-karat gold and diamond ring, Flukes of Joy, depicting a mother whale with her baby. He donated the ring to a fundraiser for Oceana, an international ocean protection and restoration environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the world’s oceans.

While fashion runway trends may come and go…gold is here to stay, and the rich metal was springing up again on the runways for Fall 2010, the World Gold Council reports. Designers accessorized models on the catwalk with stackable gold bangles, cuffs, chokers, long chain necklaces and charm pendants. Moving beyond jewelry, the runways shimmered with fabrics in golden tones or clothes that turned up the glam factor with gold beading, fringe or sequins. Gold leather handbags, belts and shoes will also be key as an autumn neutral.
