Legendary interior designer Tony Duquette is famous for coining the phrase “more is more.” It describes his design aesthetic perfectly. During his long Hollywood career, Duquette, with his partner Hutton Wilkinson, also created a collection of jewelry. Starting on October 10, 2013, “More is More: Tony Duquette – Hutton Wilkinson Jewelry” will go on display through March 2014 at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) world headquarters in Carlsbad, California. More than 50 pieces of the designing duo’s work will be showcased. The jewels draw inspiration from Duquette and Wilkinson’s work as Hollywood costume and set designers. Pieces featured in the exhibition are culled from the Anthony and Elizabeth Duquette Foundation for the Living Arts and from personal collectors.
Creativity is in the genes for Italian designer Emanuela Duca, who was involved in dance, painting and sculpture before finding her true calling as a jewelry designer, the medium that in her words is a “marriage of movement and sculpture.” Duca, now based in New York City, creates simple, minimalist shapes with textured surfaces evocative of volcanic ash and the ancient ruins of her native Rome. The sterling silver pieces are accented with diamonds or colored gemstones. Currently, Duca is part of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) Incubator Program that was created by New York City Mayor Bloomberg in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation and Newmark Holdings to support the next generation of fashion designers in the Big Apple.
