Jewelry designer Karen Karch and Heather Thomson of “The Real Housewives of New York City” have collaborated to create a jewelry collection to benefit The Kellner Family Pediatric Liver Disease Foundation. The Lover/Fighter: Heather Thomson Muse Capsule Collection recently debuted at Karen Karch’s boutique in New York City’s Gramercy Park. Karch was inspired by Thomson, who she describes as “a modern-day warrior princess on a collision course with success.” The gold collection features gems, layered chains, stacking rings and entwined heart earrings. Thomson wears the collection in “The Real Housewives of New York City” on the Bravo television network. Inspired by the fact that everything is made of atoms, Italian jewelry house Dibi SpA, in collaboration with designer Stefano Russo, has created Athomie, a brand of jewelry made to appeal to our sense of touch as well as sight. Russo is intrigued by combining science and art and applying these concepts to create a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Each piece is made using a special patented technology of suspended sterling silver diamond-cut beads that rotate 360 degrees in their settings. The result is a unique sensory experience for the wearer, who can feel the beads moving against the skin when the piece is worn or played with while being worn. The collection is created in silver, gold-topped silver or blackened silver. Always fascinating, skulls are a popular theme in jewelry and gemstone carvings. On October 18, 2013, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) debuts Faces of Eternity, a collection of 15 carved gemstone skulls. Peruvian artist and master carver Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio, who is an engineer by profession and a second-generation master of objets d’art, created all the skulls. Each life-sized skull is a different gemstone, from rain-forest jasper to pink opal, complemented by additional parts made of silver or gold vermeil. There are 11 other skulls in the series, which are in private collections in the U.S., U.K., France and Russia. The exhibit runs through April 2014 at GIA’s headquarters in Carlsbad, California.
