When you think of a diamond, the first thing that comes to mind is a glorious, sparkling colorless gem that speaks the language of love and glamour. Yet there is so much more diversity to diamonds. We all know about the exceptionally rare colored diamonds that sell for astronomical prices, but there are other, very cool, diamonds that are beautiful and unique in their own way and are much more accessible. Many of these diamonds had been ignored for use in jewelry, but when the recession hit several years ago, cutters and designers got innovative and began working with material that was often overlooked. The result of this creativity was a new vocabulary of diamond jewelry that holds appeal for a different audience. Millennials like the individual look of some of these diamonds that are one-of-a-kind conversation pieces and Boomers like the casual feel of some of these alternative diamonds. Now these unusual gems are accepted into jewelry wardrobes as a unique and interesting way to wear diamonds. Here is a look at some of the more fashion-forward and affordable diamonds that are being used in jewelry.
