My anthem is “Theme from New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra. I grew up in a household where Sinatra was played regularly. While I can recite the lyrics to so many of his songs, this one in particular has always resonated — specifically the line, “If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere.” Having started my career in midtown Manhattan as a young, green, recent college graduate, it gave me strength to persevere in those early years of establishing myself. Two decades-plus later, the anthem still resonates as I look toward new opportunities and challenges that life presents. Having “made it there,” I know there is nothing I cannot accomplish now.

Sheryl Jones Owner of Sheryl Jones Jewels

I worked at MTV for nine years before my career in the jewelry industry. The best thing about it was listening to music in some form or another all day long. I love all types of music, from pop, country and jazz to R&B and rock, and probably have an anthem in each genre. The song depends upon my mood or how much motivation I need. Some songs never go out of fashion in my music library, like Tina Turner’s “The Best.” She is an icon and a woman who exemplifies defying the odds. She sings with such conviction; you can’t help but feel it. I also like gospel music anthems by BeBe and CeCe Winans, [such as their] “Addictive Love,” and “Conqueror” by VaShawn Mitchell. They are both uplifting and put whatever is challenging in perspective. It reminds me that I am not alone and to have faith. Ariana Grande’s songs always put a smile on my face, Andra Day’s “Cheers to the Fall” reminds me that there are other maverick sisters out there pushing boundaries, and U2’s songs transport me.

Patrick Coppens General manager of sales and marketing for Rio Tinto’s diamond business

As I want to stay in a diamonds theme, Rihanna’s “Diamonds” and Paul Simon’s “Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes” easily come to mind and invariably put me in a good mood. The number-one top of the list for me, though, has to be “Everglow” by Coldplay. The stunning red and violet artwork of the single’s cover and the lyrics were an inspiration [for naming] one of our most famous Argyle fancy-red diamonds Everglow. The opening piano chords and lyrics — “Oh, they say people come, say people go. This particular diamond was extra special” — always put a big smile on my face and make me think of the great products and people in our industry.
