Designer Lines

By Amber Michelle
The Accessorie Circuit held in January at Piers 92/94 in New York City was filled with the must-haves for spring. The show was exploding with color in everything from handbags to jewelry. Blue in all shades, but specifically in deeper hues, continues to rule as a neutral. Fine jewelry ran the gamut from large statement pieces to tiny stackables. Message jewelry was everywhere and many featured words of inspiration or designs with symbolic meaning. A number of designers were featuring padlocks — a natural follow-up to the wildly successful key pendant. Darkened metals continue to be prevalent, as well as rose cuts, gray diamonds and other nontraditional diamonds and gems. Of particular note was a plethora of pearls, especially oversized baroques as stations strung on leather or cord for a casual, but pulled-together, look. Bavna introduced its new Bavna 925 collection at the show. Designed in the U.S. and manufactured in India, the jewelry takes Bavna’s distinctive look and creates it in silver with diamonds or colored gems. Many of the diamonds used in the collection were rose cuts with heavy white inclusions giving them a frosty glow that almost made them appear to be moonstones. These diamonds were used alone or with colored gemstones for a subtly glamourous feel. Mayson, a fine jewelry collection that focuses on colored gems and diamonds set in silver, has expanded its offerings to include diamond-specific pieces, also set in silver.

The queen of personalized jewelry, Alex Woo, has added new cities to her Cities Collection. Personalization continues to thrive with initials and messages showing up in a number of lines. Jordan Scott put a new spin on message jewelry with his text message necklaces that use common shorthand to keep the thought brief and easy to type. Zoë Chicco was showing black diamond and rose gold combinations as well as her classic rocker style. Alane Weissman followed her aesthetic with small sparkly pieces, such as diamond charms on hematite or pyrite bead chains. Overall, spring looks to be a colorful season with jewelry playing the role of adding color to a neutral outfit or remaining neutral to harmonize with the many shades of bright that will be cropping up as warmer weather approaches.
