New Geneva Show to Tap Jewelry-Auction Audience

December 20, 2017  |  Rapaport News

RAPAPORT… A new jewelry trade fair will come onto the scene in Geneva
next year, hoping to capitalize on the strong buyer attendance at the auctions that take place in the Swiss city.

The Geneva International Gem & Jewellery Show (GemGenève) will
take place at the Palexpo center from May 10 to 13, coinciding with major jewelry auctions that draw high-end buyers to the city each year. The show will be “open and accessible” to a
targeted audience of buyers and collectors, the organizers said.

GemGenève will be an “intimate, elegant, contemporary and
user-friendly show, bringing together a community of 100 top-flight exhibitors,
including gemstone, diamond and fine pearl merchants, antique jewelry dealers,
select jewelers and manufacturers,” said the show’s founders, Thomas Faerber
and Ronny Totah.

The new show was announced shortly after organizers of Baselworld, Switzerland’s established high-profile jewelry and
watch exhibition, cut the length of next year’s event by two days due to weak market conditions. Baselworld will also be smaller, featuring about half
as many exhibitors as last year, MCH Swiss Exhibition said last
month.
