RAPAPORT...  Ace Jewelers Group introduced Holition Augmented Reality on its website, which enables users to try on jewelry using virtual imaging. The company, based in Amsterdam, sees the use of this technology as the future of online retail. ace jewelers

Alon Ben Joseph of Ace Jewelers said that Holition allows clients to explore products by trying on its Eternity pave ring in a virtual environment. "The ability to use the software online is a huge benefit and one which will undoubtedly bring a novel and exciting new experience to Ace clients and ultimately drive sales," he noted.

To utilize the application, customers can print out a paper ring from acejewelers.com and then cut away the scrap, size the ring to fit and use a webcam to stream the paper ring onto their fingers. The image of the ring  is then projected onscreen so that the user can view it on his or her finger from different angles.

Holition developed the virtual reality marketing application for use online, in-store and at live events and caters to the jewelry, watch and eyewear markets. Holition is a joint venture between 3D specialists Inition and Holts Lapidary.
