RAPAPORT...

The first observations out of this week’s Diamond Trading Company sight give us a higher estimate than sight No.8 in September 2009, but it did only match the lowest estimated value of the calendar year.  Our Avi Krawitz will write more about the Diamond Trading Company's October sight right here on diamonds.net shortly.

Rapaport Broadcast also takes a look at the major pre-Christmas sales estimates for U.S. retailers from ICSC, NRF, Deloitte, and BDO. Considering very weak consumer spending all year, there were no real surprises nor was there reason to break out Champagne.  It will be a tough shopping season for retailers as they all fight for market share against a consumer landscape littered with tight wallets.

The best advice for retailers seems to be, keep costs in check, manage inventory tightly, reach out to shoppers with messages that  make them need to spend, and bridge social media with the in store experience.
