RAPAPORT... Indian customs officials seized about 3,425 carats of rough diamonds being smuggled into the country by two African nationals, local press reported.  The goods were said to be valued at about $207,000 (INR 9.2 million).

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) detained Maria Juana from Angola and Sow Dianguena from Angola for trying to smuggle the goods into the country by hiding them inside body cavities. The two have been detained for 14 days.

Officials said the two were promised $1,000 each for delivering the stones to an undisclosed person in Mumbai, The Hindustan Times reported.
