RAPAPORT... The European Business Awards recognized more than 100 companies for the  Ruban d’Honneur prize in the next to final round of this annual event.  Ruban d'Honneur recipient Diamdel Antwerp was selected as one of 10 that will now compete for  the HSBC International Growth Strategy of the Year Award.

Ruban d’Honneur recipients will face judging in London in September. The  winners in each of the 11 categories will then be announced at an awards ceremony in Barcelona on November 22.

Diamdel will compete for the HSBC prize against pump manufacturer Grundfos of Denmark, wood products specialist YILDIZ Entegre of Turkey, automotive filter producer Wix-Filtron of Poland, medical device engineer Aerogen of Ireland, medical researcher Chiesi Farmaceutici of Italy, alternative energy company Solairedirect of France, water treatment firm Waterleau of Belgium,  enterprise solutions provider Software AG of Germany, and telecommunications brand Lebara Ltd. of the U.K.

Neil Ventura, Diamdel's chief executive, said, ''Receiving a Ruban d’Honneur from The European Business Awards we regard as a real mark of distinction. The innovative approach Diamdel pioneered to negotiating the sale of rough diamonds has enhanced De Beers leadership position. Our success is the result of sustained commitment from our team, our customers and our partners and on behalf of all of them I thank the judges for their consideration and recognition.''

Adrian Tripp, the chief executive of The European Business Awards, said, ''Receiving a Ruban d’Honneur is a major success. It promotes the fact that you’re up there with the best businesses across the European community. This year has been tough on the judging panel as we’re seeing businesses emerge from economic difficulties and come out fighting and delivering some great entries. The mood is confident, ebullient and highly competitive.''

John Casey, the HSBC head of commercial banking in Europe, added that only a few will be crowned European Business Award winners in November, but the entrants were a reminder of the immense talent creating prosperity across the country and across Europe. ''We connect businesses with opportunities internationally every day, and are pleased to see so many of these businesses pursuing global growth opportunities with a forward-thinking approach. As these winners attest, Europe has a great deal to be confident about.”
